As you drive on country roads, you likely will come across farm equipment on the road. Know that often the drivers of these pieces of machinery are wearing ear defenders, and thus will not be able to hear that you are behind them.
Some of the best ways to safely share the road with local farmers include:
- Do not follow too closely
- Make sure to plan your over-taking carefully, as they are often wide and long.
- Be aware of any livestock in the immediate area. You may also encounter farm animals on the road. They may either be being herded, or they may have escaped. Animals that have escaped are particularly hazardous since they are unpredictable.
